Use the Item Category (сreate) dialog box to add a new item category. if If items of this category have the same characteristics or UOMs, you can defined them for the category , and the items will inherit these attributes.
Make sure that the Parent folder shows the correct folder (enclosing folder).

Click Save if you want to save the item category. The Set of Characteristics field will be populated with the new category's description. If needed, you can provide another name for the file with the category's characteristics.
Click Save and Close to save the item category and close the dialog box.
Adding Characteristics for the Category
To add characteristics to the newly created category, click the Characteristics link on the top of the form. The Item Category

(Item Characteristics)
form appears. Initially, the list of category's characteristics is empty.

Click the Create button to add a characteristic for the category. The Item Characteristic (create) form opens.

Check the resulting list of characteristics of the item category. If needed, you can add a new characteristic at any time.

Adding an UOM for the Category
To add units of measure to the item category, save this category, and click the UOMs link at the top of the Item Category dialog box.
This opens the Item Units of Measure (create) dialog box.

In the Description field, type a string designating the UOM. Click Save and close.
