The Inventory tab provides information on inventory items or raw materials used in production of the specified quantity of the finished goods in addition to specifications and how they are distributed over the listed finished goods.

Generally, the tab is filled out manually by listing the indirect material costs (tools, raw materials, or other items) that were used in production in addition to materials listed in the specification and by distributing their costs to the costs of finished goods items.

The tab includes the following two tables:

  • The Inventory Items table: It contains a list of inventory items used in the manufacturing process in addition to items listed in specifications, for instance, tools or raw materials. Such items are recorded to the Work-in-Progress GL account.  You can populate the list from the specifications by clicking Fill > By Standards if you need to change the quantities of materials used for manufacturing (in this case, you need to list only the excessive quantities).
  • The Inventory Distribution table: It lists the items resulted from manufacturing (from both the Assembly and Disassembly transaction types).

The Inventory Items Table

You can fill out the list of inventory items manually or automatically. To fill out the list automatically, click the Fill button and select one of the following options:

  • By Standards: To populate the list by using the specifications of the finished goods listed on the corresponding tab. Specify the excessive quantities of the items used in the manufacturing process and remove the items used according to the specification.
  • By Balances: To populate the list by using the balances of the items on the Work-in- Progress account.

To add an inventory item, click the Add or Pick button (refer to Using the Pick operation). In the Item column, select an item from the Items list. For more details, refer to Items.

You can use the Up and Down ( ) arrows to rearrange the items in the list.

The Characteristic column is available if the Enable Item Characteristics option is selected on the Administration > Settings > Purchasing and Warehouses form. In this column, you can specify additional properties of each item if the Use Characteristics option is selected for the item in its master record (see Items).

The Batch column is available, if the Enable Batches option is selected on the Purchasing and Warehouses form. In this column, you can specify the batch (lot) number for each inventory item for which the Use Batches option is selected.

In the Quantity column, you can specify the item quantity and in the Unit column, you can select an UOM for the item if the Multiple UOMs per Item option is selected on the Administration > Settings > Purchasing and Warehouses form.

The Specification column is populated automatically with the default specification assigned to the item that requires intermediate manufacturing.
