Overview

1C:Enterprise is a business application platform used to build and run enterprise management and accounting solutions.

FirstBit Software products are developed on this platform, which means they require the 1C environment to operate.

However, 1C licenses cannot be installed or used directly on native macOS to run the platform locally.

This limitation exists because the 1C platform officially supports full functionality only on:

• Microsoft Windows

• Linux

macOS support is limited to certain client access methods and does not include full platform deployment.

What Is Not Supported on macOS

On a native macOS system it is not possible to:

• install or activate a local 1C license

• run a 1C server

• open or manage a file-based database using the thick client

• use a Mac as a 1C application server

What Is Supported on macOS

macOS can still be used to access 1C systems via client interfaces:

1. Thin client for macOS
   Connects to an existing 1C server.

2. Web client
   Access via a web browser.

In both cases, the database, server, and licensing service must be hosted on another machine running Windows or Linux.

Available Workarounds

1. Run Windows on the Mac (Most Common Solution)

Install Windows through virtualization software such as Parallels Desktop.

Architecture example:

Mac → Virtual Windows → Installed 1C:Enterprise → Database

Advantages:

• full compatibility with 1C

• local licenses can be installed inside the Windows environment

• file-based databases supported

• behaves like a standard Windows workstation

2. Use a Remote 1C Server

In this scenario, the Mac acts only as a client.

Architecture example:

Mac → Thin client / Web browser → 1C server on Windows or Linux

Advantages:

• stable and scalable

• standard architecture used in most companies

3. Host the Server on Windows or Linux

The 1C server and licensing service are installed on a dedicated machine, VM, or cloud server running Windows or Linux, while the Mac is used solely for accessing the system.

Summary

A native macOS environment cannot run the 1C server, host file-based databases using the full client, or install a local 1C license.

Practical working options include:

1. Running Windows in a virtual machine on the Mac

2. Connecting to a remote 1C server

3. Using the web client or thin client for access

These approaches allow Mac users to work with FirstBit solutions while keeping the 1C platform and licensing on supported operating systems.
